The Peugeot 308 is the name of the replacement for the Peugeot 307, a small family car produced by the French automaker PSA. It was unveiled on June 5, 2007 and it is the first car of the 008 generation of Peugeot models.

In the UK, television adverts have began airing with the slogan 'the drive of your life'. There have been spyshots and artists' renderings of the possible look of the new vehicle published by electronic and print media, including French magazines such as L'Auto-Journal and Auto Plus. The development code for the car is allegedly "Project T7", and the vehicle will probably be sharing its platform with stablemate Citroën C4. A coupé convertible variant, codenamed "Project T76", a station wagon and a crossover SUV variant, codenamed "Project T8" are also expected.

The pictures set for official unveiling were leaked on the May 31, 2007 a week ahead of schedule.

A 2+2 coupe concept car version of the 308, the Peugeot 308 RC Z, has been unveiled by Peugeot and will be presented at 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. This coupe concept is 18 cm lower than the sedan. It is similar in looks and proportions to the Audi TT.

A station wagon concept car version of the 308, the Peugeot 308 SW Prologue, has been unveiled by Peugeot and will be presented at 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.

A cabriolet with a retractable hardtop is also expected later on to replace the Peugeot 307 CC. It will cost around £20,000 (US$40,500), to market it in comparison with other small executive coupes.

In Britain, the basic 308 1.4 3-door hatchback is expected to retail at around £12,000 - a similar price to the equivalent 307 that it replaces, and a comparable price to many other similar sized cars from rival manufacturers. It is cheaper than the Honda Civic, similarly priced to the Volkswagen Golf, but slightly more expensive than the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra.

These are the first official pictures of Peugeot’s brand new compact hatch, the 308 which will succeed the 307 in the French carmaker’s range. Its design, which combines styling elements from the 207, the 407 and its predecessor, the 307, comes to no surprise as we’ve already had the chance to see various uncamouflaged prototypes on the road the past weeks. Still, as we’ve already noted before, we expected something more than a bloated 207 from Peugeot.

While the 308’s designers followed the same path in the interior borrowing most of the 207’s design elements, thanks to minor variations like the Italian-styled circular air-vents and the different climate controls, it actually looks distinct to the untrained eye. The pictures might be official; however, the car hasn’t been announced by Peugeot. Meaning, no official info rmation -yet(...). From what our sources told us though, the new Golf sized Pug will be available with the 207's new 120Hp 1.6 and 150 & 170 Hp 1.6 Turbo engines with sales starting this autumn.

1.Notice that the front goes way beyond the front wheels, that results small wheelbase and smaller passenger space; if the 308 will resemble this illusration it will mean that like it's bigger sister, the 407, the 308 will be one of the least roomy cars in it's class
2.Why are all the manufacturers moving towards the sideview mirrors attached to the door panel instead of up on the window area?
3.Well, because if you notice how far ahead the end of the side window is at the A pillar...that would be too far forward for the side mirror.

I do think the front end is a bit too long in relation to the rear overhang.

The first Ford Focus had this appearance too, but this is far worse.

Maybe the strict new European pedestrian standards are causing this?
4.most new car designs have large front overhangs these days. is it to keep the engine out of the passenger compartment? peugeot certainly makes nose-heavy, but very safe cars though.
5.is it the 207 or the 307 that they will keep in production when its replaced by the 2/308?

This car looks like its god ALOT going on. I'll admit that I never have been a Pegeot kinda guy, Citroen is more my thing, and maybe Renault, but this one I find particularly bad. The front has so many details, while the rest of the car is sorta plain. Not a big fan of that gaping mouth either.

6.If they tweaked the front end, this thing could be great.
We won't see it in USA, though.
Hey, any maker that builds a decent 3 door these days can't be all bad.
Get tired of seeing 5 doors that look like what we used to call Station Wagons, and the few 3 doors we have are tC, Tiburon, Eclipse, Accent, and Maybe a return of the 3 door Civic, I read.
Not many choices.
We need more choices, more 3 doors!
